4 FA L L 2 0 2 4 I C A S Q U A R T E R L Y Thanks for checking out the Fall CAS Quarterly. In this issue, Jon Greasley CAS, as part of a committee researching the topic, provides insight on a growing trend in his article "Dialogue Intelligibility: The Rise of Subtitles..." while Michael Wynne CAS shares his experience transitioning from a sit-down to a standup mixing cart in the article "Get Up, Stand Up (at your sound cart!)." CAS Associate Whitney Worthen looks into recording sounds for games in the article "Game Audio: Capturing the Perfect Three Seconds," and Paul James Zahnley CAS reflects back on mixing the film SOLD in "When Impulse Responses Saved the Day!" "Sound Serving the Story" has CAS Associate Sam Casas speaking with mixers to get their take on the topic and Adam Howell CAS asks some of our colleagues to share "Tales from the Gig." CAS Associate Gregory Vilfranc MPSE ponders in his article "Plugins and Gear: When Is Enough, Enough?" Finally, be sure to check out the "Been There Done That" and "The Lighter Side" sections, where you can read about the happenings of our CAS colleagues. As you have heard, the CAS is excited to name production sound mixer Tod A. Maitland CAS as the 2025 CAS Career Achievement Award recipient. In addition to his noteworthy work on-set, Tod has been a generous contributor to this magazine throughout the years. Congratulations, Tod! Also, I'd like to congratulate all our recently Emmy-nominated members. It's always a treat to see the CAS initials, not only on the screen, but in lists of highly skilled craftspeople. Best of luck in September! The CAS Quarterly is produced as a service to our members and relies on their voluntary nature; see the Collaborators section to read about the authors of the articles. If an article makes you think of a friend or colleague, send a link to the online version of the Quarterly, available on the CAS website. Have something to share? We'd love to hear from you!
