CAMERA GEAR www.postmagazine.com 27 POST MAY/JUNE 2024 BLACKMAGIC INTRODUCES VERSATILE PYXIS 6K CAMERA FREMONT, CA — Blackmagic Design's (blackmagicdesign.com) Pyxis 6K is a next generation digital film camera that features a versatile box design. The camera has a 6K sensor (6,048x4,032) with 13 stops of dynamic range and dual CFexpress media recorders, all in a customizable body. Blackmagic will offer Pyxis 6K in three models, allowing users to choose between L-Mount, PL or Locking EF lens mounts. Pyxis come with multiple mounting points and accessory side plates, making it easy to configure and mount to a range of camera rigs, such as cranes, gimbals or drones. In addition to multiple 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch thread mounts on the top and bot- tom of the body, Pyxis' side plates further extend its ability to mount accessories, such as handles, micro- phones or SSDs. Its compact body is made from precision CNC machined aerospace aluminum, making it light- weight yet very strong. The 36x24mm sensor is almost three times larger than a Super 35 sensor and allows cinematog- raphers to shoot with a shallow depth of field or use anamorphic lenses uncropped. Using the full area of the sensor gives shooters an open gate 3:2 image. The large sensor also lets DPs work in true 6:5 ana- morphic without cropping. Pyxis can shoot in all standard resolutions and frame rates, from HD up to DCI 4K and 6K. Photographers can also shoot stills at 24.6 megapixels. A built- in LCD provides more than just status — it's also a four-inch, high-resolution, HDR touchscreen that is well suited for monitoring and reviewing shots on-set. Blackmagic Design says the Pyxis 6K will be available this month at a price of $2,995. APUTURE EXPANDS INFINIBAR LINE OF LED KITS LOS ANGELES — Aputure (aputure.com), the provider of LED lighting for film- makers, has added two new lighting kits to its Infinibar line: the PB6 and PB12 four-light kits. Infinibars are color-tunable stick lights, with multi-pixel control and a flat bar design that allows them to be seamlessly connected. Now, in two- or four-foot lengths, they are more portable too, and 50 percent less size and weight than the current eight-light kits. The kits come with four Infinibars, DC male-to-male power cables, adapters and light control grids in a sturdy, rolling, hard case. In addition to charging each light individually, the kits are equipped with a 330W power adapter with four-way splitters that can simultaneously charge all fixtures in or out of the case.
