CAMERA GEAR www.postmagazine.com 26 POST MAY/JUNE 2024 ATOMOS' NINJA PHONE TO SHIP IN JUNE MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Atomos' (www.atomos.com) new Ninja Phone kit allows users to record from professional HDMI cameras right to their Apple iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. Designed to take advantage of the iPhone's high-quality OLED display, the Ninja Phone provides a quiet, 10-bit video co-pro- cessor to create a portable and connected professional monitor/recorder. The Ninja Phone lets users connect any professional camera with an HDMI output to Apple's OLED screen in HDR. The unit encodes the camera's HDMI signal to ProRes or H.265 — both formats at 10-bit quality, making them well suited for HDR. The encoded video is sent via Ninja Phone's USB-C output to the iPhone 15 Pro's or Pro Max's USB-C port. The iPhone's A17 system-on-a- chip decodes the camera sensor image to display on the high-resolution iPhone screen. The display is an improvement over typical built-in screens that come with most cameras and boasts a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, as well as support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. It can display 11 stops of dynamic range, with a peak brightness of 1,600-nits, making it well suited for HDR and outdoor viewing. The Ninja Phone iPhone app will be available as a download from the App Store, and will run on iOS and iPadOS. It controls and coordinates the opera- tion of both the Ninja Phone and the iPhone, making them feel like a single, responsive device. For social media creators who need to shoot in 9:16 portrait mode, the Ninja Phone app adjusts to horizontal or vertical video modes. The Ninja Phone weighs in at 95grams, and at 335grams when coupled to an iPhone 15 Pro. Pricing is expected to run $399 when it ships this month. MRMC RAISES BAR FOR PTZ PRODUCTION SURREY, UK — Mark Roberts Motion Control (www.mrmoco.com) has devel- oped a range of solutions that can take PTZ productions to a higher level of quality via motion and automation. MRMC's range of rail, lift and jib solutions help create engaging content through quality motion. The most recent addition to the range is the PTZ Mover Kit, delivered via a Slidekamera by MRMC Atlas rail, which provides those working with PTZ cameras with a quick, high-quality way of adding side-to-side motion to their content capture. The kit is versatile and can be tripod or table mounted, or un- derslung in a truss system. The system is powered and driven by Slidekamera's Kairos controller or Slideye software, and its quick-release plate means any PTZ camera can be used. MRMC also has its own PTZ camera range. The ARC-360 provides high-qual- ity images within a precision-engineered housing, while the ARC-UHD offers support for UHD and HD output video rates at up to 60p. The ARC-UHD also supports simultaneous output of SDI over coax and fibre for flexibility of adop- tion into existing infrastructure and workflows. All MRMC and third-party camera systems can benefit from further efficien- cies when they are layered with automation software, such as Polymotion Chat for subject tracking. The software can further free up production teams by auto-framing the subject live, allowing remote operators to monitor and set up their next shot. The AI-based system then manages the tracking, following the presenter or guests around the studio or stage, eliminating any worry about them stepping out of frame.
