DGA members gathered at the Guild's Los Angeles headquarters for the Western Region Annual Membership Meeting on Wednesday, May 15 and the Eastern Region Annual Membership Meeting at the DGA New York Theatre on Tuesday, May 21. Secretary-Treasurer/Past President Paris Barclay delivered the State-of-the- Guild reports in both locations for President Lesli Linka Glatter, who was filming nights and unable to attend. National Vice President Laura Belsey presided over the gathering in New York. In the State-of-the-Guild Report, Barclay lauded the way that the DGA, the Directors Guild Foundation and the DGA-Producer Pension and Health Plans supported members through a difficult period. Looking to the future, he spoke about the gains achieved via the recent contract negotiations that have been in effect for a year with the new residuals structure in made for Streaming Video on Demand (SVOD), enhanced residuals for high budget Non-Dramatic programs and moved into an issue close to every working member, safety. "We're passionate about this, and we push for changes that not only help our members, but the whole industry," said Barclay. "As you return to work, you will be seeing safer sets. Our first-ever ban on live ammunition has permanently eliminated that risk from our sets. New safety training courses for AD/UPMs and AD/SM/PAs on firearms, environmental safety and other issues have been established and the one-hour reduction in the length of the workday we negotiated for nearly all Assistant Directors is now in practice. The Guild's field reps and staff are working to ensure that these new protocols are being implemented and assessing whether they are having a positive effect on the work/life balance for our ADs and making our workplaces safer for everyone."
