Mendoza on industry experiences that have prepared her as a Director: "There's absolutely no question that being a Production Supervisor and an AD helped inform my directing skills. Not in terms of how to talk to Actors or how to shoot, but how to appreciate what the production schedule would allow. What you needed, like what could you do in two hours and what could you do in 45 minutes and what was gonna take four hours or five hours. I think it's just about knowing your script — you need to know your script like the back of your hand — and what you need for each scene and what's important in each scene. So, it really is about prep. It's about knowing what you need for the scene and going in, because look, we all know there's what I call the 'production vortex' where something happens and everything blows up. And now all of a sudden you've lost two hours in the day. You still have to make your day. So, by really knowing what I need and what I want for each scene, you're able to then say, 'Okay, I can combine this. Let me cut that, that was an extra shot. This shot I need for the transition.' You just have to have your priorities. You have to know what you need and why, most importantly."
