LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2024 • 43 SLM Markus Bensch: You have guaranteed sunshine all year round, a good infrastructure and plenty of very good hotels. It offers a variety of different looks from modern cities to medieval towns, castles, stunning landscapes, badlands and the Tabernas Desert. LM Deon du Preez: Both Malaga and Seville have plenty historical, yet also accessible architecture, spanning over many different periods. It ranges from Malaga's Moorish period of which Alcazaba Fortress is an amazing example to Seville's Plaza España which features a mix of 1920's art deco, Spanish Renaissance & Baroque revival, as well as Neo-Mudéjar styles. And with Malaga on the coast, together with Seville, it presents filmmakers with countless diverse natural landscapes—from beautiful beaches and coastal villages to snow- capped mountainous terrain such as Sierra Nevada where Society of the Snow was filmed, to the desert landscapes of the Tabernas Desert LM Joe Abel: Seville was MAGICAL. The city was so alive and rich with a ton of diverse locations. The Plaza de España is a filmmaker's paradise. The details in the architecture invoke another time, while the open spaces provide endless possibilities for our storytelling. The Plaza is featured in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Game of Thrones, The Crown and Lawrence of Arabia. The stunning Mezquita (mosque) in Cordoba isn't just a monument, it's a cinematic chameleon offering a kaleidoscope of textures, light and history. Another great area was the Juderia (Jewish Quarter) with its narrow flower-filled alleyways, winding streets and hidden gardens. The imposing Malaga Cathedral provides a stellar historical backdrop, while the labyrinthine lanes and sun-drenched plazas offer a chance to capture intimate character moments. SLM Michael Glaser: I was surprised to learn about the abundance of local rebates along with the federal rebates. And the small sound stages we went to were unexpected!
