LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2024 • 55 LM Simon Daniel: Carolina, who organized the Marketplace and the tours, told me as we left Valladolid, that we, the Castile- La Mancha group, got the food tour and she was right. The food was amazing! We started in Toledo, the former armory of Spain that was founded by the Romans BCE. As it started pouring rain, we looked for shelter at the Santa Maria Cathedral, one of Spain's main gothic cathedrals. The next stops were a privately owned airport, an old mercury mine, and a farmhouse in Dehasa de Montreal with a desert landscape and small mountains and canyons in its backyard. Finally, we arrived at Don Quixote's windmills, next to the ruins of the fortress of Consuegra. On the way back, we saw a village built from black slate, and a well-preserved fortress in Siguenza. Our last stop was a wellness resort which was nicely integrated in an old textile manufacture building. In Brihuega, we came in contact with a Spanish tradition, the bullfighting! LM Peter Gray: I really enjoyed my time in Toledo. Despite the big downpour of rain and weather conditions, we trooped on in exploring the Old Town, Castle De Consuegra and finding some shelter within Santa Iglesia Cathedral. The Cathedral had a beautiful courtyard and cloisters, which I thought would have worked nicely on a show I previously worked on! Mining town by Peter Gray/LMGI Airport terminal by Peter Gray/LMGI
