40 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2024 MEETING AT THE MARKETPLACE The SLM kicked off an opening-night welcome cocktail party, sponsored by the Association of Film Commissions International. Yepes appreciates the support of its Executive Director, Jaclyn Philpo. "She helped a great deal with promoting the event with film commissions worldwide and led one of our panels!" The keynote speech, titled "Inspiring Stories: A Conversation Between Friends,'' was delivered by writer Jay Gibson and former LMGI President Lori Balton. "Lori has been an invaluable asset to SLM since minute one," says Yepes. She kindly provided many contacts and suggestions on topics and speakers for the Summit in addition to suggesting invites for production executives, writers and production designers. She has also helped bring more international film commissions on board—we say she is our 'International Ambassador.'" Adds Balton, "I first met Carolina four years ago through a post she made on Linked In regarding organizing the very first SLM. I reached out and offered to help guide her through the process if she needed assistance in choosing aendees and discussion topics. I was so impressed with how responsive they were to suggestions aer the inaugural expo that I continued my commitment to helping figure out how to make it a sustainable venture. I'm very proud of their success." Aer the conference, LMGI participants were divided into groups and taken on extensive tours that covered six regions of Spain. They were ready to hit the road!
