THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2024 • 19 Hair Crafting Fun B Y J A N I K L E I N B A R D H A I R C R A F T E D U C A T I O N P R E S I D E N T We had such a fun class. We started off with Hair Craft President and Hair Craft Secretary elections and I will do another term as president and Ciara Adise will be the new secretary. Our first Hair Craft Class of 2024 was amazing. We had presenters talking about protective hair styles. Our first presenter was member Melanie Ervin, a talented, positive, skilled cosmetologist and barber who discussed protective hair styles and demo'd what they actually are, how to maintain the natural hair in its optimal condition with the goal of having their hair be healthier then when they start on a show. Righteous Roots, a woman-owned business, is a natural hair oil company that is designed to protect, nourish and revitalize your hair. They transform all hair types into the best that it can be, beautiful and healthy. Their clarifying shampoo in non-drying and conditioner is extremely moisturizing. You can also use the conditioner mixed with water as a leave-in. Ciara Adise, a new member, introduced us to Chi's Royal Treatment Leave-in Conditioner Curl Care. Her presentation encouraged us to use this product to add moisture and softness to any curly hair. She also introduced us to Milkshake Glistening Serum, a heat protectant that controls frizz and smoothes the cuticle. Crystal Haynes, our kind, hardworking member, introduced us to her Luxe Therapy Scalp Smoother! A must-have for every person's kit. If you haven't seen it, look in Glamour magazine's 25th anniversary article on hair and itchy scalp. Here are the products that actually work. Kudos my friend. What a great accomplishment. Moira Frazier, the Department Head Hair for Abbott Elementary, leading her award-winning team, came and introduced us to her amazing creation, Run My Show Digital Organizer. Have you ever wanted a great digital organizer for your show so you are not dragging around binders everywhere? It is easy and everyone will want their own. So easy to use. Moira is a bright star who is generous and so creative to help our jobs be easier. I want to give a huge shout-out to First Entertainment Credit Union. Carmi Gallardo, Cynthia Romo, and Paige Gardner generously provided Porto's pastries, coffee and water. Not only do they support our meetings, but they also have some great programs for us. Make an appointment to see how they can help you. I also want to thank my partner Brenda Blatt for volunteering the past few years and helping make these craft classes a success. She has been a godsend.
