Since we had some knowledge of what a set MAY look like from the animated series, we would use that as our jumping-off spot. In the example featured on these pages, the Burned Forest was a very memorable set from the cartoon. We clearly wanted to make this more realistic and definitely more horrifying to the viewer. I did a bad sketch. This is always fun because two of the Art Directors on the team (Andrew Budyk is a trained architect and Marshall McMahon is a very competent DRAWER) get a great deal of amusement at just how bad my drawings are⦠In my defense, these doodles convey intention just perfectly. The sketch gets improved by an Art Director or a Concept Artist and gets sent to the Virtual Art Department which begin to turn it into something more usable in The Volume. (A & B) We met regularly (over Zoom) with a group called Happy Mushroom. They took the concepts and turned them into a model. Once the model was approved, it went out to The Volume Production Burned Forest previs from Unreal. Volume outline superimposed on Unreal model. Burned Forest concept drawing by Happy Mushroom.
