"Our aspirational goal is to substitute virgin plastic and other non-sustainable materials wherever possible." –Good Plastic Company In December 2023, the ADG Green Committee Materials Sub-Committee met in an exciting hybrid meeting at ADG HQ with William Chizhovsky, founder of The Good Plastic Co. William flew into LA from the Netherlands for only a few days and was introduced to us in person by Danica Vallone of Red Hen Industries as a pioneering Ukrainian businessman (his first facility is located in the Netherlands, second one in Ukraine) involved in developing plastic sheet materials from post-consumer and industrial plastic waste. William Chizhovsky is Harvard educated, has an IT background and has worked for a publicly traded company; he discovered one day that he could do something good for the planet. He wanted to find an application for solving plastic waste on a large scale and focused on architectural and interior design. In the beginning, he invested his own savings with support from colleagues to invest in equipment that had to be specially developed and engineered in order to develop these 100% recycled and recyclable plastic panels. Based in the Netherlands, The Good Plastic Company is an international manufacturer of surface materials that help projects and brands make a visible commitment to sustainability. It is the largest manufacturer of completely recycled/recyclable plastic sheeting (horizontal and vertical), with products that are made from items such as refrigerators, plastic utensils, CD cases, polystyrenes, refrigerator parts, computer electronics flakes, film spools and those pesky red party cups. Finished pressed or extruded sheet products can be easily cut on a CNC machine as the workability is similar to wood in its flexibility. Due to their shredding and melting process, the company is able to take back cut-offs and waste material, as well as heavily used material (even printed on or with screw holes) and reform them into new product. They are hoping to open a U.S. factory by the end of next year (possibly near Los Angeles), and are currently working with local colleagues here in CA to develop products that could replace our reliance on typical virgin acrylics or Sintra materials. Polygood is a range of 100% recycled and recyclable architectural plastic panels that can be used to create modern-looking and environmentally conscious furniture and interior or exterior design elements; which could replace A A.
