The task was to recreate the boardwalk entrance to the world's most famous amusement park. The limited time to install was somewhat daunting, but I was determined to make it unforgettable and stay true to the historic setting. I knew this sequence would also have limited screen time, but it still needed to have an impact. Filming in the mid-summer chaos of Coney Island was not easy. Set Designer Dan Kuchar breathed amazing life into this vision, lending us his theatrical expertise and whimsical spirit. I really thought the result was a masterpiece, meticulously crafted and pre- fabricated in sections so that it could be installed on location overnight. Multiple vendor stands added dimension to the boardwalk's transformation, each contributing to the authenticity of the set. And the fixtures department did a wonderful job with all the vintage practicals in this set. They proved invaluable in illuminating the set facades, enhancing the allure and enchantment of the scene. The Art Department also embarked on the ambitious task of creating a sprawling retirement home set. This set existed in the imagination of the little girl, but like the man upstairs apartment set, it could not be obviously over the top. We needed to create a mixture of a lively college dormitory and a run-down retirement home, with buzzing activity rooms, cozy bedrooms with personal touches, art classrooms and therapy rooms. A.
