M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 45 computing. Avid Ada's mission statement starts: "Fostering creativity through the power of AI…" He gave us a demonstration of Media Central. Media Central combines many of Avid's modules, including sound and picture. It starts with two little robot icons on the top right hand of the window. The first one is Avid Ada. It is a chatbot that is connected to ChatGPT. ChatGPT has been trained on all Avid's products. So, anyone can ask Ada any question on how to use the products. It is also interactive. You can ask it to create sub-clips in Media Composer and it will automate those tedious tasks. Using semantic learning, it can "read" a script, learn character and locations, and then suggest shots for the scene from A-roll and B-roll. You could also ask it to "show me shipwrecks in Cypress" and it will find shipwrecks in Cypress not having been told what a shipwreck is or where Cypress is. After you create a clip, it can create a text summary of the clip in five different languages at the moment. Avid Ada clips can be found on YouTube. Scott Mann, CEO & Co-founder of Flawless, was next. Flawless has two tools to work with. TrueSync and DeepEditor. And a third beta program to address artistic rights. TrueSync's main use is to convert a project from one language to another using the actor's voice to train and graphic CGI to change the actor's lips and face to follow the new performance in the target language. He showed an impressive clip of both language change and word replacement. While the results were excellent, he didn't explain the workflow. I suspect that a performance from an actor in the target language is needed. This became clear as he demonstrated DeepEditor, a program usage that allows you to change performances from take to take or from scene to scene. This uses the actor's voice and mapped facial movement to recreate or change the performance. Again, this was a very good recreation. This is similar to "face" swapping with voice added. Scott's focus seems to be to create films less expensively during production with a fix-it-in post AI attitude. To cover the artistic legality, Flawless is developing an app that will allow an actor to approve or disapprove a performance change.
