M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 43 finished show that can be aired, but the model that can be used to greenlight a show. It could be predicted that pilot season for cast and crew will be greatly diminished or even non-existent. The pitch will be through moving image with sound and music where few humans were involved in its making. Renard Jenkins observed, "Innovation has been a part of everything we've done from the moment someone said, 'Let's figure out how to capture an image on celluloid. Always growing, always interactive.' Innovation that compounds as humans learn and discover." To be true, at this point, GAI is simply mathematics that still needs a person to express the idea to be realized, and to train the GAI to get better at it. What's different now is that GAI tools are encroaching on what has historically been in the domain of people with specialized skills for creative expression. It is apparent that the 'ideas' people will need far fewer technical execution people to achieve their vision. The economics of saving a thousand percent on the cost of human capital will likely be irresistible for the 'business' people of show business, especially those that view crew as a commodity and not as collaborators. It's not hopeless. While the business model is changing, we can't accurately predict what new opportunities for humans will arise. There may be a skills' shift into other areas, and there will always be purists like those who will only shoot on film, that choose to only interface with collaborators that are human. Artificial intelligence is evolving, but the concern is not in the technology itself, but in how humans will make use of it. Humans will choose to implement tools that displace other humans. There are bad actors out there. We must make sure they are not the ones in control of guiding the development of the technology and policies of implementation. Many companies are conscientiously including components in their products that protect the human endeavor. Those companies understand that at the core of the 'show' in 'show business' is people.
