Six months of 2024 are in the books, and what an amazing first half of the year it has been. A few months removed and reflecting on the 71st Annual Golden Reel Awards (GRAs), the reviews are in, and we can all appreciate what a special night it was to celebrate sound with colleagues and friends, both old and new. Another shout-out is warranted for the amazing Awards Committee and volunteers who brought this event to life: Miguel Araujo, Tracie Costabile, Steve Avila, Linda Rosner, Sequoia Productions, Mark Lanza, Chris Reeves, David Bondelevitch, Bill Dannevik, Amber Funk, Perry La Marca, Amelia Montgomery, and Eric Gillingham. If you weren't able to make it this year, I sincerely hope to see you at the 72nd Annual Golden Reel Awards in 2025. Following closely on the heels of the GRAs, we hosted our first of what we plan to be many "MPSE Celebrates" events. At these events, we screen a classic film with a legendary soundtrack and host a Q&A with some of the film's creators. In partnership with our friends at Warner Bros., we screened The Matrix on its 25th anniversary at the Steven J. Ross Theater on the Warner Bros. lot in Dolby Atmos, followed by a Q&A with Academy Award and MPSE Career Achievement Award winner Dane A . Davis! The event was one for the ages. We had a "green carpet," a Matrix 25-themed step and repeat, and original costumes and props on display in the lobby, all on a beautiful, sunny, Southern California afternoon. Our membership showed up en masse and had a wonderful time. But one of the best things about the event was the inclusion and attendance from our friends in the broader filmmaking community. Members from CAS, PGA , ACE, DGA , WGA , and Local 700 were all welcomed, and many came to simply enjoy our sound event. Our gratitude is extended to Eric Marks, Kim Waugh, Crissy Kikkawa, Tracie Costabile, and Amelia Montgomery for making this event a stunning launch of this series. But wait, there's more! We are taking the show to New York City! Again in partnership with Warner Bros., we'll be screening The Matrix in Dolby Atmos at the Hudson Yards Screening Room in Manhattan, again with a Q&A with Dane A . Davis. We look forward to seeing our East Coast membership at the event! This is part of a broader MPSE initiative to host events in our many other markets and expand the awareness and appreciation of sound around the globe. If you have any ideas for events and are willing to participate and assist in organizing, please reach out and let us know! As always, I look forward to a fantastic 2024 with the MPSE and hope to see you all soon. Enjoy this Summer 2024 edition of Wavelength! DAVID BARBER MPSE I PRESIDENT
