G M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 41 enerative artificial intelligence (GAI) in entertainment was the focus of the Television Academy's "2024 Artificial Intelligence Summit" on February 24, at the Academy's Saban Theater. It was assembled by the Academy's AI Task Force. Speakers included representatives from MovieLabs, Respeecher, ElevenLabs, Adobe, NVIDIA, and many other software publishers, plus legal experts, SAG-AFTRA, filmmakers, and craft people, including in sound. In writing this article for MPSE Wavelength, my goal is to give the reader a high-level summary of the concepts discussed and to distill our impressions down to useful bullet points. You are encouraged to invest the time to formulate your own opinion firsthand, and witness the myriad examples too detailed to enumerate here. There were many exciting products and tools presented that we will likely see implemented in projects we work on. As a foundation on to which we build our understanding of the ways AI will impact the entertainment business, we should delineate the types of AI into two categories: assistive AI and generative AI.
