characters on board during a particular mission, along with details about plane markings and any subsequent damage. The "plane bibles" were distributed not only in the Art Department, but also among the directors, producers, DPs, and other department heads and were invaluable throughout the entire production. Creating visual clarity on screen was a unique challenge since all the planes looked alike, and once the actors put up their oxygen masks and goggles, telling them apart became difficult. To address this, the crews started personalizing their looks. Adding elements like small painted figures and specific graphics gave each plane a distinctive identity. The production decided to build two full-size exterior planes and a full interior plane with all the compartments. For the interior plane work, Apple opted to build two volume stages—these worked well as practical sets on large gimbals for the SFX team for all the effects shoots. The light effects and explosions of the LED screens worked well with showing realistic reflections on the surfaces. While having the volume provided some great advantages, working in such a small space made shooting sometimes tough and slow. Thankfully, the stages had amazingly smooth floors, which really helped us, as it allowed us to build the heavy gimbal rigs on airbags. This was a huge time-saver; we could move the gimbal in and out of the horseshoe-shaped screen very quickly with four guys. It was fun to watch! 2 WAR EAGLE (CLEVEN / FRIEDKIN) PHOTO REFERENCE: SC. 2.31 - GENERIC 1 2 2 SC. 2.31 - A NEAR MISS FROM FLAK, WITH RATTLES FROM A FEW SMALL PIECES OF SHRAPNEL HITTING SC. 2.40 - FLY THROUGH DEBRIS AND SMOKE BUT REMAIN UNHARMED 1 1 2 2 1 1 DAMAGE AS NOTED BY SCRIPT AND PREVIS 2 (STARBOARD SIDE) (RIGHT SIDE LOOKING FORWARD) EXT EXT E SCENES WHERE SC. 2.31 SC. 2.40 SECTIONS AFFECTED: FLIGHT DECK NOSE COMPARTMENT EXTERIOR DATE OF 12 SHEET BASED ON "PINK" SCRIPT DATED 28.5.21 INT B-17 FLYING INT DAMAGE SYMMETRY 30.6.21 NOSE ART PORT PORT STARBOARD STARBOARD 6 Jan 2022 TOP PLAN BOTTOM PLAN 4 SERIAL NO.
