Research turned up an old plan of the base from 1946, which helped to get the basic layout of the camp. In total, the site had enough accommodation for around three thousand personnel. This all spanned across a site covering more than six hundred acres. It was becoming quite evident that the base essentially broke down into three basic areas: the camp with the administration and housing areas, the airfield, and the runway and hardstands with the planes. Due to the size of the new aircrafts, the runways had to be extended and larger hardstands were added. Additional facilities were also provided for the U.S. crews. The series starts while the base is still under the expansion phase. Airbase Layout The brief was to shoot all the interiors on the same set on location, and for it to remain in place for twelve months.
