RALPH H. MARTIN NOVEMBER 15, 1930 – OCTOBER 22, 2023 It is with an extremely heavy heart we announce the passing of our treasured friend and former ACE board member, Doug Ibold, ACE. He lost his very long and hard-fought battle with cancer on Wednes- day, November 8th, surrounded by his closest friends. Doug served on the ACE Board for the better part of two decades and was an Emmy and Eddie Award nominated film editor, receiving the Career Achievement Award in 2012. An excerpt from his Tribute Book article written by Liza Cardinale, ACE says it best: "A restless spirit and boundless curiosity propelled him throughout his successful career, and made his list of accomplish- ments more varied than usually found on DOUG IBOLD JANUARY 23, 1940 – NOVEMBER 8, 2023 the resumes of primetime television edi- tors. From jazz bass player to commercial director to rock 'n' roll cinematographer, and eventually to editor, Ibold always had his finger on the pulse of his time and man- aged to stay engaged and relevant as years went by." He was a fast walker and the first to give a hearty hello to anyone passing by. My dad worked at Warner Bros. Studios for 39 years. He started his career as an assistant editor and over the years assisted and edited many features and television shows including "Cheyenne," "77 Sunset Strip," and "Nichols," starring James Garner. In 1971, he was oered the position of editing and overseeing the editing of features for television, airlines, and syndication. He supervised a crew of around seven editors, along with providing material for licensed clips, awards shows, Kennedy Center honors, etc. He often talked fondly about how every morning, colleagues would gather in his WB oce for a coee klatch. He was always available to give car advice and up for a good joke or gag in the oce, and there were many. Ralph became an affiliate member of ACE in 1994, which he was very proud of. Ralph's hobbies included working on cars, photography, building and working on computers, and operating a ham radio. He was a member of CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team. During the Korean War, he served in Air Force Intelligence. He was a wonderful father and husband of 64 years to his wife Madeline, who passed away February 19, 2023. He met Madeline at Warner Bros. when she would pick up her father, film editor Arthur P. Schmidt, from the lot. They started dating, and the rest is history. They enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, and going out to dinner. He is survived by his three daughters Ann Martin, Diana Martin Ramer and An- drea Martin. He was grandpa to Kori Fagan and Kyle Conemac and great grandfather to Madeline and Mike. ■ He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. - Ann Martin Coincidentally, the obituary of Ralph Martin's brother-in-law, picture editor Arthur Schmidt, appears on page 64.
