M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 73 Andrew Plain's sound career spanned from 1984-2014. an encyclopaedic knowledge of film, and an academic curiosity, all of which he was only too happy to share with up-and-coming filmmakers, sound assistants or students at universities and films schools around Australia. Unbelievably, it's been 10 years since Andrew passed away and to acknowledge this sad landmark, it seemed appropriate to reflect on his legacy. Not only can we re-watch the films he worked on, but we can also look at the creative careers he fostered in others. He was incredibly kind and thoughtful, and always found time to train up new graduates or encourage those just starting out. With a career spanning 30 years, many awards and more than 100 films, the following is by no means a comprehensive compilation. There are many individuals who would have wished (loved) to contribute to this reflection, however, space, distance, time, and a myriad of factors meant that these few are standing in for the many, many people who benefitted from Andrew's generosity and wisdom. You will hopefully note the similarities in their stories and understand something of his impact.
