M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S 9 Greetings, wonderful members! I hope everyone had an enjoyable fall. It was wonderful to see so many of you at our events these last few months. We have been especially busy here in the office with a multitude of events and planning next year's Golden Reel Awards. Here's what we've been up to. MPSE Fall Family Picnic What an absolute blast it was to host nearly 300 people for the MPSE Fall Family Picnic! We had a picture-perfect day filled with super-fun activities, delicious barbecue, and a beer/wine bar that kept us all refreshed in the warm SoCal sun. Adults and kids alike enjoyed a huge array of activities, from the 75-foot obstacle course, to the mechanical bull, to the 200-foot Alpine Slide. Jumbo lawn games, a face painter/balloon artist, and our challenging Ninja Wall rounded out the activities. Guests dined on delicious tri-tip and zesty barbecue chicken fresh off the grill. Salad, beans, coleslaw, fruits, and rolls were the perfect accompaniment. No one left FROM THE MPSE OFFICE hungry! The raffle saw several attendees go home with hundreds of dollars in MPSE merch and other cool gifts donated by our sponsors. And every family went home with a slick new MPSE frisbee and a pumpkin! Thanks to our sponsors and all the donations from our attendees, we were able to raise a grand total of $14,000 for the Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund. Our picnic sponsors included NBCUniversal, CAS, Warner Bros. Post Sound Services, AVID, Fox Post Production Services, and Formosa Group. Thanks, attendees and sponsors, for your generosity! Sounding Board v3.0 The MPSE was proud to co-sponsor this free event with our friends at CAS for the third year in a row. We enjoyed a jam-packed day filled with exhilarating conversations about mixing, recording, and creating creatures. The event began with the panel Mixers, Mixers, Mixers. Our panelists were joined by MPSE member and host of the Tonebenders podcast, Timothy Muirhead, for a fascinating deep dive into the magic of mixing. Next up was the ever-popular Parade of Carts. What an incredible array of equipment we got to see! Participants gave us a tour of their rigs, facilitated by the day's host. After all that fun, it was time to re-charge. What better way than a delicious catered kebab lunch and raffle. MPSE and CAS donated items and 12 lucky attendees walked away with some super-cool merch. The final panel of the day was Creature Feature. Talk about a fun panel! We were fortunate to have legendary voiceover artist Lex Lang join us for this one. Conversations took a turn to the weird and wild as sound artists revealed their secrets to creating believable monsters. It was truly a fabulous day filled with learning, networking, and lots of fun. If you missed out, we hope to see you next year! MPSE Outreach The MPSE Board of Directors is dedicated to expanding awareness of our craft and our organization. To that end, in the last quarter, the MPSE sponsored The Vancouver International Film Festival, GameSoundCon 2023, and the University of Texas Radio/ Television/Film Game Audio Con 2023. For all three events, the MPSE had our own table where we were able to chat with event-goers and give away some of our ultra-cool merch. We had some international merch for the VIFF, and even designed new items specifically for our gaming brothers and sisters for the other two events. You can check out those sweet new gaming designs at www.mpse.org/store. FYC Portal We hope you are enjoying using the new FYC Portal, located in your member profile. If you haven't checked it out yet, just log into your member profile at www.mpse. org. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find all your FYC codes conveniently in one spot.
