is Paul's fortress of solitude." I then realized he wasn't speaking to the room, he was speaking directly to me as a collaborator, in the language of design and construction. I started to relax into this very satisfying exchange of ideas. He then said—"I was thinking Paul would have gone to Design Within Reach for the basics…taking two of those, three of those and so on." I nodded in agreement,—"and then let's add some great 18th and 19th century antiques and vintage pieces… like a George Nakashima bench." I opened my design packet to show him a stunning Nakashima bench and said—"Like this?" He looked up with a curious expression and said—"yessss, like that… and maybe a Biedermeier armoire for my vinyl collection." I then flipped the page showing him a unique Biedermeier cabinet, "Like This?" A puzzled look crossed his face, no doubt wondering how this Jedi mind trick had happened, but then, with a wide grin he stopped talking, simply extended an arm and fist bumped me. "It's gonna be great, thanks." We both stood up and all my producers were now grinning too, Randall gave me a wink. We all walked outside into the blast of Burbank sun where I said—"I think that went pretty well. What do you think?" EP Kip Kroeger turned to me laughing and said—"Dude, you just got fist bumped by Han Solo, I think it went pretty well." We had the same impossible challenges every show faces these days, a nonstop six-month 24/7 charrette and marathon. We stuck together through thick and thin and were able to do work we are all proud of thanks to our phenomenal crew and an incredible cast of iconic artists who took the time to speak our language and to help us bring this Pasadena story to life. Thanks to all… ADG F. PAUL SPEAKS WITH HIS DAUGHTER. INT. PAUL'S CONDO, LIVING ROOM, STAGE SET, WARNER BROS. STAGE 11. PRODUCTION STILL BY TIM SWOPE.
