the graphic work here and in the house, we had to let Jenna go on to bring in a local Graphic Artist, Will Eastin, working directly with the crews in NOLA. Everywhere we could, we looked for places to weave in both Brynn's family and her lost friend, Maude, which seemed to be the source of the conflict with the town. All of this was worked out step by step with both Brian and Aaron. I had had the good fortune of working with Aaron on The Rings of Power, so we already had a good shorthand—useful given our short prep. He is not only amazing with light and color; he was great working out how and when to feature a bit of dressing or a paint detail to help the audience start to clue in on what was going on—and then move on to create the appropriate alien mayhem. We had the standard issues all small productions face—time and money—which everyone rose to resolve. Randy and Jorin, with all their local history and crew, proved especially adept at that. Kristin and Michele kept us all together and dashing forward. And there were a few unexpected issues, like the set decorator having to bow out for private reasons, so local Claire Sanchez stepped in at the last moment to pull everything together, with the help of leadman extraordinaire, Scotty Morris. Plus, both Aaron and I caught COVID right before the first week of shooting. He guided the shots from inside an RV he drove from location to location himself. And I tried to direct the on-set crew over QTAKE, which fritzed out anytime an actor moved, making it look like they were pixelated in Predator camouflage mode. It actually was a special story, and a special project, truly like nothing else I've ever done or seen. A small and talented team of resourceful craftsmen and artists made a world where, without spoken words, Brynn can live, and slowly share her secrets.
