HE GLEANED WHAT DIRECTORS WANTED, AND GAVE THEM A PLAYPEN FULL OF LOCATIONS TO CHOOSE FROM." " Griffith's audacious career has transported him to 'ava ceremonies with Samoan village chiefs, negotiations with the Ecuadorian military, and frame-ready Baltimore courtrooms that grounded Al Pacino's Oscar-nominated performance in And Justice for All. Dow considers it a job perk to support and enrich the global communities he works within. "I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to have learned from, cultivated lifelong relationships with, and had a positive impact on the communities that have partnered with me in sharing the beauty of their homes with movie viewers worldwide." Griffith joined the LMGI in 2010, saying, "I salute the combined efforts to shine a klieg light on my fellow members' achievements and advocating on their behalf." He's attended several LMGI Fam Tours, traveling with peers on educational visits to Quebec, New Mexico, Iceland, Poland, Tahiti, Republic of Georgia, Spain, Lapland, South Korea, Trinidad & Tobago, and New Zealand. "It's a wonderful way to learn a location's potential that one might not have imagined and build the mental location library that is a tool of any location manager. It's also a great way to meet fellow location managers who are normally off doing their own projects." Griffith credits a host of creative partners with helping to make his successful career a rewarding journey. "Making movies is an adventure for all concerned; but one of the most adventuresome contributors to the making of a feature film is the location manager who scales a mountain of possibilities, dives into the deepest jungle of choices, crosses an ocean of opportunities in order to find and negotiate and facilitate the locations that will become a story told through moving pictures. My fairly lengthy career has so far been a great adventure only because of the talented, creative and courageous directors and producers who have entrusted me with this responsibility. So my thanks to brave and fearless filmmakers such as Taylor Hackford, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Kathy Kennedy, Richard Vane, Paul Mazursky, Darren Aronofsky, Steven Soderbergh, M. Night Shyamalan, Tony Gilroy, Paul Greengrass, Nora Ephron, John Hughes, Peter MacGregor-Scott, Michael Apted, Norman Jewison, Carl Reiner, and Lou Stroller & Brian De Palma who first dared to hire me in 1975." For reaching the highest level of achievement and professionalism over an illustrious career, and for his many contributions to the field of location management, the LMGI is honored to award Dow Griffith with the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.
