L O C AT I O N M A N A G E R S G U I L D I N T E R N AT I O N A L 1 0 t h A N N U A L L M G I A W A R D S 2 LETTER FROM THE LMGI AWARDS COMMITTEE 2023 WELCOME TO THE 10TH ANNUAL LMGI AWARDS! This has been a challenging year for our industry and a big year for the Guild as we celebrate a milestone anniversary. Twenty years ago, Los Angeles location managers and scouts formed what was then the LMGA to promote the unique set of skills that we use to do our jobs every day. The need for a Guild sprang from the mind of commercial scout Beth Tate/LMGI, who set out to harness the energy of her talented and creative colleagues to show the industry just how amazing we are as a group. From a 2003 photo event that showcased us as artists in our own right, the LMGI has grown into an organization that embraces like-minded peers from around the world. Location professionals are part of a great storytelling community, one that relies on an army of creative and talented people. Stories make sense of our world. They entertain us; they preserve history and experience. A well-crafted story touches our hearts, encourages us to follow our dreams, and inspires us to be better. As part of that great collaborative effort, it's our visual sensibilities combined with a battlefield tactician's logistical prowess that is critical to the successful telling of these stories in the real world. In the only international awards ceremony dedicated solely to our craft, we celebrate the incredible talent, creativity, and passion that our nominated location professionals use to bring these stories to life. Like tonight's nominees, our Honorary Award recipients are recognized for their inspiration, drive, and creative vision. Master storyteller and Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg will receive our Eva Monley Award for appreciating the worlds his location teams find for his films; we salute the Guild's founding member, Beth Tate, with the Trailblazer Award for engaging her colleagues to turn her vision for a guild into a reality; our Humanitarian Award goes to the active social and public advocacy group The Creative Coalition, an arts and entertainment organization of industry leaders dedicated to issues of public importance; and our Lifetime Achievement Award is bestowed upon globe-trotting location manager and scout Dow Griffith/LMGI. Then, as now, the Guild exists to support location professionals, the international film community, and its business partners—to connect us, elevate us, and advocate for us. No matter where in the world you work and what your union affiliation is, if you are dedicated to our craft—you belong in the LMGI. And we couldn't be happier to celebrate with you tonight! We are gathered at the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, both in person and via livestreaming. The Broad is lauded as a shared space, championing bold innovation by providing a platform for collaboration and conversation amongst artists. It is a fitting setting indeed for our LMGI community to come together and celebrate the awards and our 20-year history. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors—we couldn't have done this without your help and support—and to all the committee members who worked so hard to make this night a reality. Please enjoy the show as we honor the magic, commemorate the past, and look toward the future! Congratulations to all, The LMGI Awards Committee PROMOTING EXCELLENCE ON LOCATION WORLDWIDE CELEBRATING
