Four years ago, my daughter started college. While the four years between then and her graduation this May seemed like a long time for her, they were a blink for my wife and I (though, admittedly, not just because we're older than her!). Here at the CAS, we've wrapped up four years under the guidance of an amazing president, Karol Urban CAS MPSE. Working with Karol for a number of years on this magazine and then under her direction when she took over that leadership role have been some truly great times. Karol put in an unprecedented amount of time and energy—along with the guidance of our Board of Directors—to grow the visibility, reach, and prestige of our organization. Events, outreach, education, and opportunity were guiding narratives of her work over the past four years. As a college professor, I often kid that teaching is what I do when I'm not in meetings, so being able to head an organization like the CAS while mixing full time is quite an exceptional feat. Thank you, Karol, for your dedication to this organization; it is better because of you. With that, I would like to wholeheartedly welcome our new CAS President, Peter F. Kurland! Peter's been working in production sound for nearly 40 years (see, time flies!), has a bunch of Oscar nominations, along with some CAS Award wins and even two Grammy wins! His insight and experience will help augment the strong foundation placed by our previous presidents. Plus, he's based in Nashville—so I'll get to regularly bug him to meet for a cup of coffee! I would also like to welcome our newest Board members. Your commitment to the CAS is very much appreciated. While a new Board is exciting, the real focus of this issue is to celebrate the winners of the 59th Annual CAS Awards. Hear from the winners of our seven Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing categories, along with our Student Recognition Award winner. In addition to our awards coverage, Jon Greasley CAS MPSE updates us on the challenges, considerations, and concerns relative to measuring loudness in his "Loudness: The Revenge" submission. Karol Urban CAS MPSE explores the very interesting device and approach that facilitates "hearing" through sonic touch for the deaf and hard of hearing community in her article "Music: Not Impossible – Creating the 'Vibes' of Sound for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing." Also, be sure to read about the happenings of your fellow members in the "Been There Done That" and "The Lighter Side" sections. Thanks goes to all of our contributors for volunteering their time—especially for this large issue. I'd like to thank you for taking the time to peruse the contents.
