On a sojourn to Singapore on Feb. 21, Butler met with the Asian American Journalists Association, Southeast Asia Chapter, at an "ask me anything" event organized by the U.S. Embassy. About 15 people from the embassy, local media, as well as local educators, discussed journalism in the United States and Asia, the challenges of fighting disinformation and how to adequately perform the watchdog role in countries where the government owns the media platform and/or provides a substantial portion of funding. Prior to that, on Feb. 3, the State Department International Visitor Leadership Program brought a delegation of Egyptian journalists and educators to San Francisco. Butler and other members of the Local met at KCBS Radio to discuss how to combat misinformation, especially on social media.
