I n February, the SAG-AFTRA National Board, meeting by videoconference, overwhelmingly voted to extend National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland's agreement and authorized a new four-year contract expiring June 20, 2028. Details of the agreement are confidential and were not disclosed. The agreement was approved with a vote of 87.68% yes and 12.32% no. "I am very excited to continue fighting for the members of SAG-AFTRA," Crabtree-Ireland said. "I want to thank President Drescher, our elected officers and National Board members for their confidence in me. It's truly an honor to represent the most extraordinary performers and journalists in the world, and I look forward to advancing the cause together." SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said, "Duncan is a strategic thinker and an extraordinary executive whose stewardship of our operations has been stellar. He is also the tough and effective negotiator we need!" SAG-AFTRA National Board Re-Ups NED Duncan Crabtree-Ireland Crabtree-Ireland O n March 1, coinciding with the start of Women's History Month, SAG-AFTRA released an open letter in support of reproductive rights, stating: "It is our duty to help ensure that our members are treated with respect and dignity and that their right to make safe and informed decisions about their bodies and livelihoods is always protected," said the union in its statement. The timing of the letter and its release marks SAG-AFTRA's most recent effort to ensure abortion care access for its members, regardless of where they live and work. In August 2022, the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan Board of Trustees voted unanimously to provide a benefit to cover certain travel and lodging expenses for participants in need of abortion care in states where such services are prohibited. Participants under the Plan are able to choose to travel to their home state for care, or in the case of prohibited access, a state closest to their home or workplace where abortion is legal. The full letter can be read on the union's website at sagaftra.org, and members may add their names to the more than 2,500 who have already signed at actionnetwork.org/forms/support-reproductive-rights.
