M ilwaukee is known for baseball and beer. There is so much more to the city than that. The city has many monikers, which illustrate how many facets, like a diamond, exist there. The unique history and environment, plethora of arts and entertainment venues, quality of food and beverage, and the people make Milwaukee, WI worthy of a second take when considering a location to visit, have a meeting or convention, and to do business. Historically, the city is known as the "gathering place by the waters," the "good earth" (or good land), or simply the "gathering place." Indigenous groups such as the Potawatomi, Ojibwe, Odawa (Ottawa), Fox, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sauk, and Oneida have all called Milwaukee their home at some point in the last three centuries. With many other Native populations present in Milwaukee today the 2020 census had over 7,000 people in Milwaukee County who identified as American Indian or Alaska Native, making Milwaukee the largest concentration of Native Peoples statewide. The blend of German Americans and other European American ethnic groups, African Americans, and growing Hispanic and Latino populations make up the diversi- ty that is Milwaukee, WI.
