MAKE-UP ARTISTS & HAIR STYLISTS GUILD AWARDS | 5 WELCOME AND CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE We are thrilled to present to you our 10th Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards. It is such a pleasure to be together on this special occasion at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Once again, we are able to include all our friends and family from across the globe as we are also streaming tonight's awards. With us are a special group of amazingly talented artists who represent the best in the industry. e nominees who are being recognized for their talent in creating characters for all types of productions, including feature films, television, commercials, videos, internet, streaming content, and theatrical productions, deserve to be celebrated. It bears repeating that recognition and acclaim is not new to this incredibly multi-talented group. We are thrilled that Melissa Peterman will be back hosting again this year, so be prepared for an evening filled with fun and laughter. is evening, we are celebrating the incredible Angela Bassett with the Distinguished Artisan Award. Angela has portrayed amazingly iconic women we can all relate to. She boldly collaborates with her Local 706 make-up and hair teams to extend their imaginations and develop magical but always relatable characters you will remember forever— from the beloved Queen Ramonda to feisty Tina Turner to Bernadine in Waiting to Exhale. We couldn't think of a better person to help us celebrate our 10th anniversary. Please join me in extending a heartfelt congratulation to our Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, Steve LaPorte and Josée Normand. Both are inspirations and have had a myriad of success and achievements and are recognized throughout the industry for their legendary work of make-up artistry and hair styling in film, television, and theater. Oscar- and Emmy-winning make-up artist Steve LaPorte's (Beetlejuice, Star Trek 3: e Search for Spock, and Terminator 2 & 3) skills and abilities have allowed him to work in all aspects of filmmaking. is included creating in his own lab the make-up effects on site for some of his television projects. Hair stylist Josée Normand (Star Trek: Voyager, Die Hard, and Pirates of the Caribbean: e Curse of the Black Pearl), also known for her success, has created a legacy of characters that are permanently embedded in our memories forever. is year's Vanguard Awards are being presented to Fred C. Blau, Jr. and Judy Crown. Make-up artist Fred C. Blau, Jr. (e Illustrated Man, Tattoo, Apocalypse Now, and Planet of the Apes), also known for his extraordinary spectrum of acclaimed work, blazed new trails with his creation of blood and silk screen process for tattoos, as well as the body art ink he and his partner created. is became the standard bearer and foundation for all the tattoos and transfers used today and the start of the company Reel Creations, Inc. Emmy-winning hair stylist Judy Crown (Seinfeld, Houdini, Geppetto, Murphy Brown, and Moonlighting) has forged an out- standing career in the film and television industry and worked tirelessly to im- prove the working conditions and parity for hair stylists. Working as part of the Negotiation Committees in years past, Judy has helped hair stylists receive recogni- tion as department heads. She has also leant her talent for many years teaching classes for her 706 sisters and brothers. We are so thankful to welcome back our own Local 706 journeyman make-up artist member, Angie Wells, for the memorial tribute performance that honors the 706 artists and MUAHS Guild friends and family we have lost this past year. is awards show would not be the success it is without the help from our Local 706 committees and member volunteers. We are so grateful and appreciative of your dedication to the MUAHS Guild Awards. To all the committees, and the volunteers who helped do everything from vet submissions, work on the pre-award events to aiding in the acquisition of talent and sponsorship, you are amazing. Each and every one of you made a difference in helping this to be the best MUAHS Guild show to date. A very special thank you and heartfelt appreciation to the following : Michael Johnston, Chair of Rules & Regulations/Submission Committee, who put in more hours that can be counted working on this year's awards; Gail Ryan, Chair of the Lifetime Achievement Awards Committee, for her timeless work. Lois Burwell and Barbara Lorenz on the wonderful production assistance of the Lifetime Achievement Award nominee videos. IngleDodd Media and all the committees from beginning to end; notably Kiki Akinrele, who alongside our Local 706 volunteers, worked tirelessly with everyone associated with the awards. Susan Cabral-Ebert, who has once again generously given of her time to work with both IngleDodd Media and Local 706 in all facets of production and also helped in coordination with Kathy Sain and the office staff at our Local. Our sincere thanks to Dan Evans and all of IngleDodd Media and their staff for their dedication to the MUAHS Guild Awards, Cheri Warner and Weissman/Markovitz Communications, as well as Erick Weiss and Honeysweet Creative, who are responsible for creating this spectacular event. We pay homage as well to all who have not been named here but took time out of their busy schedules to help us.
