M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 7 LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Season's Greetings! I can hardly believe we have nearly completed another annual trip around the sun, and we stand at the threshold staring down the red carpet of a new awards season. It has been a busy year for the MPSE. We welcomed back live in-person events once again, including the annual MPSE family picnic after a 25-year-long hiatus. Members from all over California, and as far away as Vancouver, B.C. and the state of Texas, made the trip to join us. A good time was had by all, and for those who missed it this year, we hope to see you at our next family picnic in 2023. Be sure to catch Tracie Costabile's recount of the family picnic. (Page 22) Our cover story this quarter features supervising sound editor/sound designer and multiple Golden Reel Award winner and Oscar nominee Scott Hecker. Scott reflects on his near 45-year career with Eric Marks MPSE as they look back at some memories from Scott's journey throughout his career. (Page 32) Solange Schwalbe MPSE returns with another terrific interview featuring MPSE members Katie Waters, Foley artist, and Bryen Hensley, supervising sound editor and partner of the Chicago-based post-production facility Noisef loor. (Page 56) Miguel Araujo MPSE entertains us with his fascinating interview with the one and only, supervising sound editor Norval D. "Charlie" Crutcher III. (Page 44) Perry La Marca MPSE brings us another great interview, this time with music editor Joe E Rand. Joe E is known for Titanic (1997), The Quiet American (2002), and West Side Story (2021) to name only a few. (Page 24) Perry also chats with music editor and author Steven Saltzman MPSE, featuring Steven's newest book, The Music of Film: Collaborations and Conversations. (Page 72) On the International front from Australia, first-time Wavelength contributor Jenny Ward MPSE shares her fascinating interview with Big Bang Sound's Wayne Pashley MPSE and Libby Villa about some of their fantastic bodies of work. I wish you all Happy Holidays and I hope you enjoy these, and all of the articles in this edition of Wavelength.
