Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, in August. "[This] was an experience I didn't know my soul so desperately needed in this strangely changing political landscape we are living in," said McCoslin. "The sisterhood I experienced in three days surpassed all of my expectations and reawakened my inner feminine power." Keynote speakers included Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who represents the 18th Congressional District of Houston, and Roxanne Gay, the author of Bad Feminist. Women traveled in from all parts of the country. Mini protests erupted outside the convention center during breaks, with those who oppose abortion on one side of the street and pro-choice convention delegates on the other, while local police stood by at the ready. Numerous nonprofit organizations, including NOW, Supermajority, Emily's List, Vote Run Lead and MomsRising led workshops empowering all spectrum of women, including the LGBTQ+ community. ● Local President Mykle McCoslin, left, and National Board member Pamela Weaver at the Houston convention. The event, open to the public, took place outside to ensure maximum safety. The day began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Lt. Gov. Howie Morales. There were appearances by Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and SAG-AFTRA New Mexico member Jeremiah Bitsui (Dark Winds, Better Call Saul). SAG-AFTRA was front and center during one of the highlights of the day: a mock set where spectators got to see how a short project was put together from casting through filming. It was a fun, informative way to celebrate, showcase the union's relevance and educate young people on the career opportunities our industry offers. The New Mexico Local manned a table and members and pre-members dropped by, said hello and got some swag. There were lots of questions about the path to membership, underscoring how quickly the New Mexico market is growing. ● New Mexico From left, New Mexico Local 2nd Vice President Tom Schuch, member Bridget Kelly and Local President Marc Comstock.
