At that point in my career, it was the most challenging yet beautiful project I'd been a part of. Every season I received a call inquiring about my interest and availability in the series, but the timing was never right. So when I got the call for Season 4, I was so excited and ready for this challenge. I love anything period or avante-garde, so I was ecstatic when I learned that there was a 1920s world, or rather the Golden Age. Because Westworld is a theme park of sorts, the showrunners wanted to see 1920s styles and a mix of the runway or red carpet looks inspired by the 1920s. We used lots of wigs, but if we could use the actor or BG artists' hair, we did. Lots of Clubman gel and Murray's pomade aided us in achieving these styles. For Christina's world, costume designer Debra Beebe and her team built very structured costumes, so we created very sleek and smooth styles. If an actor had textured or stick straight hair, we went with it. Jonah Nolan isn't a fan of man buns, so we steered clear of those. We got to play with androgyny, so we had a few women in corn rows, a few women with buzzed heads, and a couple of men in intricate updos. Christina and her crew were hiding from Hale and her cronies in the desert, so they had no access to hair salons or Sephora. So instead, we used leather strings and pieces of twine and rope to hold hair back; lots of Bumble & Bumble Dryspun, Hanz de Fuko Quicksand, and lots of Fleet Street Dirtworks were used to create these lived-in textures. e best surprise for me this season was when I turned Evan back into Dolores. I remember creating Sweetwater with Kim Santantonio and costume designer Trish Summerville, and I still had references and research photos from the pilot, so I used those to mirror some of the guests. So I was teary-eyed when Evan stepped on set in full-on Dolores gear. ank you to my kick-ass hardworking team of Michael Buonincontro, key hair, and my 3rd, Dorchelle Stafford; you nailed it!
