6 • THE ARTISAN WINTER 2023 I just love when the leaves of fall are all around us and the autumn months arrive. This is the time for adventures! After several months working in New Orleans, I am so happy to be back in California where I belong. There are SO many wonderful things to do right here in California. For example, you can find events like an open-mic event that runs October 17-November 9. Or if you are into trails and hiking, Malibu Creek State Park is an 8,000-acre wonderland of trails, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. The hike to the rock pool at Malibu Creek State Park is extremely popular! And my favorite … is the hike to the M*A*S*H TV show set… I mean, how cool is that? My dad loved that show, Hawkeye was his favorite! I have been to the Reyes Adobe Historical Site that is in the heart of Agoura Hills (which is where I am) and did you know it is the first home built in the area, dating back to 1850. WOW. The city owns and maintains the structure and cultural center, with an adjoining park. It is a local "MUST SEE"! They also are known for putting projections up on the screen so kids can enjoy movie nights! The Annual Reyes Adobe Days Fall Festival takes place in October of each year at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site and Park. It is indeed great family fun. When my kids were young, we would go to the Adobe and they would put up a projection and show movies after dark. That was SO much fun! My kids loved it! OK, so did I! Here is another fun idea... The Topanga Banjo- Fiddle Contest & Folk Festival on the third Sunday in May has been hosting this event for a number of years at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills. This event has been taking place since 1961! And last but not least, the Great Race of Agoura Hills is the largest annual/running/walking event in the Conejo Valley—an assortment of races on roads and trails ranging from family fun run to a 5K, 10K and two half marathons. Run in the March/April time frame, I know this because … I live here. Now, this is just in MY area … so if you decide to do some research in YOUR town … you may find some wonderful options by just googling. So, go ahead and embark on an adventure. You never know what you may find! Happy trails to you on your adventures. You may find some real fun out there. Just enjoy the experience … and have a great time! I love my small town. It fits me. I am very lucky to have friends in the area, who also love to get out and look for things to do. Be brave and try something new! You may find that you will enjoy the ride! Or maybe you will come and support your Malibu Search and Rescue team at their first annual fundraiser! You may really like it! Who knows, but what you really need is to just jump right in. Find the things that interest you. Adventures await you-just enjoy! Kim M. Ferry Vice President/Director of Communications, IATSE by Kim M. Ferry Vice President, I.A.T.S.E.
