MAY ROUTH
Born in India, May Routh attended boarding school in
England, then began her career at Saint Martin's School
of Art. After a brief foray into fashion, she transitioned
into modeling and fashion illustration for publications
like ogue and Elle. She married a fellow student, Adrian
Bailey. Although photography eclipsed illustration, art
became a touchstone for her life.
Writer Len Deighton asked Routh to assist costume
designer Anthony Mendelson on the fi lm Oh! What
a Lovely War. He then recommended her to vonne
Blake. When Routh sketched The Three Musketeers for
Blake, she fell in love with production designer Brian
Eatwell. They moved to the nited States.
