M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 45 Rana Eid BY CHARLES MAYNES MPSE Rana Eid is a supervising sound editor and sound designer from Beirut, Lebanon, and she will be telling us about her journey into the film sound world and her experiences along the way. Rana is a 2020 MPSE Award nominee, along with Peter Albrechtsen MPSE for the National Geographic documentary The Cave. She has been working in the film community in Beirut. Charles Maynes exchanged questions & answers with Rana on behalf of MPSE Wavelength and we are delighted to share her fascinating story and insights with the MPSE membership, and we hope you enjoy reading about her journey in film sound. We gladly introduce you to MPSE member Rana Eid. CHARLES MAYNES MPSE: Rana, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey into sound editing? RANA EID MPSE: I was born in Beirut in 1976, one year after the beginning of the civil war that ended in 1990. Despite our eff orts to live a normal life, I spent a lot of my childhood in bomb shelters. I remember how traumatic the images of the war and the demolition around me were and how I used to walk on the streets with my eyes closed. I didn't realize it then but sound was already accompanying me.
