M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 37 SSS: Was sound editing your career choice, or did you have a career choice prior to sound? BF: The short answer is, I don't think sound editing was my first choice. "Sound" was my first choice. There was just one primary sound school in India way back in the late '80s, early '90s. I never guessed sound would bring me to where I am today. SSS: Is that wild? BF: It's crazy wild! It's crazy wild because there's obviously a lot of subtext looking back. When I look back at what was subliminally happening, there were four influences that emerged from one single, collaborative effort by four individuals. I am amazed at how their work shaped me. As I retrace my path joining the dots, following the pattern I started to realize this. SSS: Were these people a part of the beginning of your career? BF: Ironically, I recently discovered, they were already working for like 10 to 15 years before they all broke out into their own around the early '70s. It's like a star exploded and I was born during that time. And I probably tapped into the universe and started to pick up stuff as a very young kid, not knowing how it would shape my life going forward. Today, I feel a strong urge to study as I have a much clearer vision about what I want to do with the knowledge I have acquired over the years. I feel a passionate need to expand my knowledge base, something which might help and add value to me, and only me. It has no bearings on the work I do, but I am sure it will influence the work I want to do. SSS: Now, were we talking about a school prior to you getting into post production sound? Did you go to a school for that? BF: My school really is work. My blessing in that is having awesome bosses. I've worked for three companies in my life and then eventually for myself. My first job didn't have anything to do with film, it was to do with live sound, FOH. Getting out of college, working with Roger Drego and his FOH company was my dream
