the next day. Same with the very unusual wooden folding chairs in the boys' bedroom. nother great find were the four cherubs which line the stairwell. Those were found at ackson Shrub, and after passing through the hands of our now expert marbleizing team, they took their places proudly. The decor for The e proved a bit easier to source locally. ll of the cafeteria tables and chairs came from rental houses, as did the vintage coffee urn and stainlesssteel service buffet. There were considerable custom graphics to reproduce for the cafeteria walls, so erie reached out to longtime collaborator, Graphic rtist im Papazian. im recreated the vintage school class photos and school pennants and created the cool s vending machine graphics for the student lounge. No sooner had erie placed the last vase of flowers on the set than the cast arrived for their first table read. The e casting had been kept secret for weeks, but now they were here in person. ennifer niston would play lair, athryn ahn would play o, Gabrielle nion would be Tootie and llison Tolman would play Natalie. The most amazing portrayal would be the mercurial nn Dowd channeling Charlotte Rae's Edna Garrett. There were a few more terrific casting choices, such as ohn Lithgow as Phillip Drummond and Snoop Dog as illis' friend, ernon, among other surprises. The cast loved their sets, taking in all the details we had spent so much time preparing. In the end, we received no notes, save for exchanging one chair which sat too low for John Lithgow. The onehour long C live broadcast was captured on nine cameras which moved seamlessly from set to set. Norman Lear and Jimmy Kimmel were featured watching the show from their roving opera box in front of an audience of two hundred twenty masked IPs. Lisa elchel, the original lair, sang the theme song from The e, and showed off that set to the home audience. oys II Men, the s R group, performed the ff re re theme song in the Drummond living room giving that set another couple minutes of much deserved airtime. t times extremely stressful, yet in the end very rewarding, Live in Front of a Studio Audience was one of the most exhilarating proects I have worked on in quite some time.
