didn't have to spend time producing slick concept renderings or detailed presentation models. ut we did have to schedule a time with our director, the legendary immy urrows, to walk through the individual sets and their overall layout on the sound stage, as the relationship between the sets and the live audience is paramount for him. So, already a week into construction, a oom call was set up and we digitally walked Mr. urrows through the stage plan. His decades of experience and instinct were immediately apparent "hy does The e set seem so cramped? Why does the ff re re set take up so much space hat's the page count in each set Can we squeeze the sets toward camera left? Can we move the audience toward camera right?" ll these questions were anticipated, and all the solutions were discussed, and we were prepared to make the changes requested. Only it now required the moving of physical walls on stage not just lines on paper. Thankfully for the ace crew in place, this became a task achieved by coff ee the next day. big challenge that all construction departments faced during the pandemic was shortage of manpower and materials. The coordinator's fear was that we would end up with a crew of permits, and that, in conunction with supply chain issues for the most basic materials like lumber and lauan, would result in slower work and increased costs. To his amazement, he was able to land a terrifi cally talented bunch of propmakers, and by the end of the fi rst week, he was able to rework his budget numbers to the grateful satisfaction of the studio bean counters. The crew was building fast. Perhaps too fast, because we were racing to produce the construction elevations in time to feed the beast. ith one full set left to draw and detail, and very hungry carpenters knocking at the door, I reached A.
