As the fi lm's SLM, he worked with LM Elisa Ann Conant and ALM Leslie Morales to help bring the script's California locations to life, and was able to share his unique perspective. Presented by the Academy Museum on May 11, the event commemorated the 30th anniversary of both the 1992 Los Angeles uprising and the film. The uprising and the movie are linked not only in time, but also by a coincidence of location. "We were setting up for night filming at a drive-in movie theater in Simi Valley when the verdict in the Rodney King trial was rendered at the courthouse nearby. That's what ignited the uprising in L.A.," shared Ampah. "John actually went to the courthouse to join the protest there, then returned to set to start filming the night scenes." Hosted by entertainment reporter Jasmine Simpkins, the discussion centered on LM David McKinney LM Lisa Scope
