M AY / J U N E 2 0 2 2 | P E R S P E C T I V E 1 7 J O S H S H E P PA R D loves collaborating and cooking up ideas to thrill and surprise the audience, hopefully showing them something they've never seen or imagined before. A self-taught live-action storyboard artist in film and TV, he has drawn shooting boards for dozens of feature films, hundreds of TV commercials and shows, and a few games. He has worked with numerous directors, including Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, Matt Reeves, Spike Jonze, Roman Coppola, Judd Apatow and Jay Roach. Some credits include The Batman, 2 Planet of the Apes, 2 Thor films, Spielberg's Robopocalypse and Warhorse, Lovecraft Country, Where the Wild Things Are and Her. He has extensive experience working closely with previs, VFX and stunts on feature films, and has basic Unreal game engine skills to integrate Art Department and VFX assets into his storyboards. Josh believes it's all about the STORY, and making sure it remains intact throughout the complexities of production; important ideas and designs need to be protected, so that they don't get lost or watered down in the increasingly fragmented VFX filmmaking process. He still can't believe people pay him to draw and tell stories. https://thestoryboardartist.com C A R Y W H I T E was retired and living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, when he got a call from Taylor Sheridan, asking: "How retired are you?" Cary began his career as a Production Designer with after-school specials in Los Angeles after getting a masters's degree in film from the University of Texas. He moved back to Austin, Texas, to design his first feature, a Western called Red-Headed Stranger. He designed a TNT movie, Final Verdict, that Production Designer Jack Fisk directed. He has worked on projects in Los Angeles (Just Like Heaven), Toronto (Mean Girls), Austin (Spy Kids). He has done television series like Friday Night Lights and Revolution. He also has received Emmy nominations for the miniseries Lonesome Dove, Buffalo Girls and for the series Yellowstone. Last year, he returned to a genre that he's very familiar with, the Western, called 1883. The byproduct of these two sensibilities, Mara spent much of her early life traveling with family, the theater or with youth exchange programs. The ability to see the world at an early age has led to a lifelong thirst for new discoveries and adventure. LePere-Schloop's work as an Art Director garnered her an ADG Award nomination for her work on Django Unchained and a win for her work on True Detective for which she was also nominated for an Emmy. As a Production Designer, Mara has worked with directors such as Cary Fukunaga, M. Night Shyamalan, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Phil Abraham, as well as many others. Mara was nominated for an Emmy for her design work on The Alienist and won an ADG Award for the show. Last year, she completed work on the Apple TV+ series Pachinko. Mara calls New Orleans, LA, home base, where she lives with her funny and remarkably tolerant husband, Nick Jenisch, and their three remarkably stubborn dogs, Mishka, Petunia, and Frankie. J E R E M Y R E E D was born in England and raised in Zimbabwe. He attended the prestigious Harrow School in London, and after graduation, did his national service in the Zimbabwean military as a paratrooper. Afterward, whilst attending university at Yale, he discovered a love for architecture, an education he has been following informally ever since. His career has spanned iconic music videos (Katy Perry), highly stylized commercials (Meta, Gucci, and particularly sumptuous looking films (Gretel and Hansel). Hard Candy was his first film, and his latest feature release will be the Silence of Mercy, a period drama set in 13th century Norman England. He has proudly received a few ADG Awards, and earlier this year, was the recipient of a British film Designers Guild Award for Excellence.
