A The 19 film In Love and War was a inemaScope and DeLuxe olor film set in WWII based on the novel The Big War. The film meets three marines on shore leave in San Francisco and follows them through to the end of their time at war. The two Art Directors credited are Lyle . Wheeler and eorge W. Davis. Lyle . Wheeler started work as a magazine illustrator and industrial designer. In 1931, worked for MM as a layout artist then moved up the ranks to Supervising Art Director for 20th century Fox. He worked on over 30 films, a few of which are Gone with the Wind ('39), Rebecca ('40) and Peyton Place ('57). eorge W. Davis started his career with Warner Bros. as a sketch artist. eturning from WWII, he worked with 20th entury Fox until he became the Supervising Art Director for MM. He worked on over 200 films, a few being o e es as on , e an rom ...L.. , e leven our and Soylent Green ('73). At the beginning of his career, Davis worked with Wheeler on every film from 194-19. The list of films includes o a u , All Aou ve , aide , David and Basea , e oe , e Seven Year Itch ('55) and Love s a anlendored Thing ('55). After 19, they only worked together on two more movies, In Love and War and e Diar o Anne ran ('59), which won them an scar for black white art direction.
