The searchlight sequence is a great example of
how a master storyteller like Matt eeves crafts
a scene (with a little help from VFX and giant
LED screens!). The shots of Batman and Gordon
(especially the "French Overs") are designed
to convey a feeling of caution, distance and
tension between them. However, what is quietly

happening in the background is that the LED
screens are presenting Gotham City as the third
character in the scene. Each shot slowly building
up to that fi nal, epic image of a united Batman and
Gordon looking out to... in this case, a giant LED
wall of Gotham City!
