The Barge and the Gates of Osiris The Barge was the one of the most fun sets of all time. The chance to design and build a gigantic ancient barge was like dream. It was scaled larger than what is represented in the hieroglyphics, to give Tawaret full command over an imposing spectacular wooden barge passing through the desert toward the gate of Osiris. Decorated with gold stars and blue paint, like the night, the barge leads the way toward a strange rock standing alone in the middle of the horizon with the gigantic portals to the afterlife, guarded by two imposing sculptures that represent a standing Osiris. The gold portals open to Marc/Steven now in union and truth. The gate featured large boards of wood made out of fi berglass, the Art Department crew built over-scale ropes, leather braids for holding lanterns, and sand was always present in every set, especially the ones that take place in the main character's mind, to remind the viewer that reality can have many folds. I asked Art Department members to submit a comment on the journey we took together. Peter Findley - Supervising Art Director The extraordinary attention to detail brought to every set by all members of the Art Department was a privilege to behold, but the hand painting of the beautiful hieroglyphs in Alexander's tomb was when I realized we were all part of something truly special.
