the show, the contestants belatedly realize the disconcerting reality of the Squid Game world only after other players are killed in front of their eyes. A fake space and an unnatural world where peoples' emotions, sense of competition and desires reveal themselves ené Magritte's hyper-realistic work inspired me to depict these moments. The set was the brainchild of director Hwang and the production team. A piece that features a bright and clear sky with dark and bleak ground and forest. An eerie scene where the day and night co-exist. A set made of artificial- looking designs but where those who fail to pass the game are killed on the spot. Yes, the Squid Game has begun. Second Game – Dalgona (Sugar Honeycomb) After becoming a mother, the playground I visited with my child felt awkwardly small. When I was a kid, the swings and slides were so big that I envied my friends who rode them without hesitation. As an adult, the playground looked like a miniature. My first instinct was to create a miniature-like set of playground equipment for the Dalgona game. Instead, I changed my mind and came up with a playground with oversized triple-scale equipment to give the adult players a sense of fantasy. The clouds on the wall were drawn in crayon by the painting team, which worked well with the idea of conjuring the nostalgia of childhood. I remember a sense of joy I felt during preparation, seeing the crew enjoying the gigantic slides and swings. D. RED LIGHT/GREEN LIGHT PRODUCTION STILL. COURTESY OF NETFLIX. E.
