AT THE CAPITOL 6 ADVOCATE | SPRING 2022 should distrust their teachers despite what those parents have experienced in our school," said the music teacher from Paradise Valley Unifi d District. "It is time that parents and educators continue to stand side by side and send a clear message to legislators who seek to destroy our public education system." Parents—Dr. Alicia Vink and Wendy Maldonado—joined teachers in speaking at the press conference about the impact school funding has on their children. ey both urged their state senators to override the school spending cap. Following the press conference, Chandler Education Association President Katie Nash and Mesa Education Association President Kelly Berg, constituents of Senator J.D. Mesnard in legislative district 17, led a group of educators through the senate to seek an audience with Senator Mesnard and ask him to support the school spending cap override bill being heard today. While educators were unable to speak with him, Senator Mesnard, along with fellow Republican Senators Nancy Barto, Paul Boyer, Rick Gray, Sine Kerr, David Livingston, Tyler Pace, T.J. Shope, and Senate President Karen Fann joined Democrats in the Senate in voting yes and were successful in passing the resolution to raise the aggregate expenditure limit this year.
