Film Master 4.0 at IBC S TOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — Digital Vision (www. digitalvision.se) showed its line of image enhancement products at IBC. The company's Phame algorithms are the foundation of its en- tire product line, and were highlighted in its Film Master grad- ing system. Film Master 4.0 in- cludes further sup- port of AAF effects, AAF export and XML ingest for many forms of metadata. Throughput has been extended with more of the DVO ef- fects now imple- mented on the GPU, including Zoom, De- focus, Aperture, Alias and De-inter- lace. All options are available in realtime, along with color cor- rection and 3D LUTs, and can be played directly to tape with- out rendering. There is also en- hanced support for stereo mastering with tools that allow users to grade left, right or both eyes. Further 3D support includes convergence tools, keystone correction and DVO Tracker. Thomson upgrades Edius NLE N EVADA CITY, CA —Thomson Grass Valley (www. thomsongrassval- ley.com) showed V.5 of its Edius nonlinear editing software at IBC and announced an upgrade program that runs through the end of the year. Edius comes bun- dled with over $1K worth of third-party plug-ins and soft- ware. Plug-ins in- clude tools from Pro- DAD, NewBlueFX, iZotope and Corel. Also included is a free package of SD and HD stock from Artbeats. The app supports the JPEG 2000 compression format, allowing users to edit footage shot with the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity digital camcorder. In addition, support has been added for formats that include AVC-Intra, XDCAM 4:2:2, Ikegami GF and AVCHD. The app is also de- signed to work with the new HDStorm PCIe I/O board. As part of the im- proved workflow, Edius 5 runs on Win- dows Vista and has new GPU-acceler- ated effects and im- proved MPEG-2 pro- cessing through multi-threading. Until the end of the year, Edius costs $799; upgrades are $249. P R O D U C T S W INDSOR, UK — The Pixel Farm (www.thepixelfarm.co.uk) launched PFClean at IBC, a turnkey, hardware-accelerated system for DI and restoration. The Pixel Farm is of- fering a "video" system for SD and HD, as well as a "film" system for 2K and 4K projects. At IBC, the company demon- strated the transfer of grading and edit information between PFClean and Avid Media Composer using the ASC's Color Decision Lists (CDL) em- bedded in the Avid ASC Edit Decision List (EDL). The tightly-integrated workflow links offline editing and image restoration. PFClean/Baselight integration was shown too. This workflow allows footage to be graded in Baselight while simultaneously being restored in PFClean. This is achieved by PFClean di- rectly accessing a Baselight job in order for PFClean to be automatically populated with the clips contained within that job. Upon completion, PFClean updates the Baselight job to pick up the restored footage. The demo featured MTI's Correct V.7, the company's new digital film restoration and finishing solution. When linked to Bright's Brightdrive media recording system, a solution is created for providing realtime, shared ac- cess to digital media assets. Correct V.7 has dust-busting capabilities for film and DI. The app has also been simplified for a shorter learning curve. Other new features of Correct V.7 include a streamlined GUI; a uni- fied tool panel, with all of the software's plug- ins integrated into a single screen; and a re- vamped keyboard layout featuring numerous hot keys for speeding up tasks. MTI is offering customized packages, with specialized toolsets. Packages will be avail- able for DI work and TV post. Two packages will be available for film restoration operations too, and an "Artists" package will be offered featuring basic tools for new and less-experi- enced users. An "Experts" package will in- clude a full set of tools for senior artists. DVS shows data management tool H ANOVER, GERMANY — DVS Digital Video Systems AG (www.dvs.de) showed new features to its standalone Spycer software at IBC. The data management tool al- lows network administrators to define and manage computer groups for a SpycerNet, in- dependent of the existing infrastructure. Using a password-protected administrator account, computers are assigned to SpycerNet groups. This increases the security of a peer-to-peer network. And since the administrator can build on existing networks, the system is flexible. Copying speed on Ethernet-based TCP/IP lines has been increased substantially. The new multicast process in SpycerNet — a scal- able content management network — frees the user from subnet limitations. As such, data can now be managed with maximum flexibility in any type of IT infrastructure. Being an open system, Spycer supports conventional IT infra- structures as well as all DVS products.
