THE 58TH ANNUAL CAS AWARDS CINEMA AUDIO SOCIETY 7 Welcome to the 58th Annual CAS Awards Show! After two very dif cult years, we return tonight to the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown to renew our bonds of fraternity and celebrate the incredible work of our sound mixing community. I know there were quite a few hurdles to getting here, not only with the immense sacri ces we have all made these last two years but in the logistical requirements of vaccination veri cation and testing. I thank you all for your willingness to comply with our safety measures in order to participate this evening. Your safety was paramount in our design of this event. Great measures have been taken to ensure tonight's celebrations yield nothing but joyous memories. I am grateful for your dedication in upholding our safety protocols and for your excitement to see one another. In 2021, we saw virtual events and increasingly sophisticated digital communication tools nd a permanent home in our lives. The CAS has continued providing virtual technology events and had our 2nd annual virtual membership meeting, which continues to attract members from all over the world. We even held our rst jointly produced virtual sound conference with the Motion Picture Sound Editors, The Sounding Board v1.0. We launched a YouTube channel and continued production and growth in our magazine, podcast, social media channels, and website presence. Soon, in response to member requests, we will be launching a digital storefront offering of cial Cinema Audio Society merchandise. It is my steadfast belief that these digital communication mediums, which allow us to temporarily forget about the physical distance we may have between us, have made it possible for us to now boast a membership roster of more than 1,000 professionals in six of the seven continents. Our value to our members increases with the inclusion of each new member. I am incredibly proud of the diversity of work and the disciplines of sound mixing we currently represent. There is an unprecedented wealth of broad-reaching knowledge within the minds of our membership. Finally, tonight is your night! Congratulations to all the members, nominees, winners, and honorees on another incredible year of outstanding excellence in sound mixing.
