INDUSTRY SPOTLIGHT The “Green Market” Grows M aster Distiller T. A. Breaux and Viridian Spirits’ Jared Gurfein teamed up to bring three renowned superior-quality absinthes to the United States this summer. Three years after the ban on absinthe was overturned by the efforts of Viridian Spirits and Mr. Breaux, Lucid Absinthe Supérieure was approved; now Viridian Spirits is thrilled to expand their absinthe-only portfolio with the addition of limited-quan- tity European successes, Jade C. F. Berger, Jade Esprit Edouard and Jade 1901. These spirits were released in Europe in 2005, the result of scientifi c analysis and replica- tion of original 19th-century brands owned by Breaux, perhaps the foremost contemporary expert on absinthe in the world. It was Breaux who developed the formula for Lucid Absinthe Supérieure, the fi rst genuine absinthe made with historically accurate amounts of real grande wormwood to be legally available in the United States in nearly 100 years. Victoria Beer Makes Its U.S. Debut in Chicago A global brand ambassador for Ballantine’s 17, 21 and 30 year old whiskies, McDowell left an impression on the golfi ng world by becoming Europe’s fi rst U.S. Open champion in 40 years. He will now be celebrat- ing his success in style by opening a very rare bottle of Ballantine’s 2009 Championship Blend, which he co-created with Master Blender Sandy Hyslop and which celebrates Ballantine’s 50-year involvement with international golf. Make-Up & Moët M and Carlos Fernandez, Chairman and CEO of Grupo Modelo Brewery, tap the fi rst offi cial keg at a Chicago on-premise account. Chicago is the fi rst U.S. city to get a taste of Victoria; launches in other top U.S. imported beer markets will follow. Victoria is a Vienna-style lager that has been produced in Mexico since 1865, making it the country’s oldest and most traditional beer brand. Until now, Victoria was only available in Mexico.
