The African American Atelier promotes its exhibition pro- grams in a modern, spacious three-gallery space on the main level of the Greensboro Cultural Center. A total area of more than 2,143 sq. ft. includes: two offices and storage, two small galleries totaling 700 sq. ft. (The Eva Hamlin Miller Gallery and The Bennett College for Women Gallery) and the main gallery consisting of 720 sq. ft. Explore the history of the American civil rights movement with a guided tour of the International Civil Rights Center & Museum's permanent exhibition, The Battlegrounds. This engaging encounter, introduced with a captivating audio/video narrative, includes a journey through time via pictorials, artifacts, video reenactments, and interactive components. While in Greensboro, conference attendees are encouraged to explore the city's magnificent art galleries and museums as well as delve into the booming nightlife. After a day of constant running around, meetings and other conference related events this off time will be much appreciated. The International Civil Rights Center & Museum offers an educational journey through the challenges African-Americans faced in the struggle for equal rights in the United States and brings this history to life with vivid photography, artifacts, video reenactments and interactive galleries. The museum is located in the former F.W. Woolworth retail store, a Greensboro historic site. The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum at Historic Palmer Memorial Institute is North Carolina's only state-supported his- toric site recognizing a woman and is also one of the first to honor an African-American. The site is the location of the former Palmer Memorial Institute, an African-American preparatory school estab- lished by Brown in 1902.
